This is a "hongi" a Maori greeting (NZ) - nose to nose - symbolising the oneness of the partnership between Holy Given and Shalom Mission Church.

The "Gethesemene Grotto" at Prayer Mountain at Full Gospel Church Retreat - beautiful and green and steeped with decades of prayer by those gone before. These areas are for individual prayer and worship to God. Students visited this area today and spent hours in the "Grotto" - Gods presence was strong among the students.

HOLY GIVEN: KOREA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF MISSIONS '08.

stacks_image_27F21DC2-FAA8-46B6-8E61-6C7B244E9B27

The first HG Korea school started on 24th July with an opening ceremony at Shalom Mission Church in Seoul, Korea. 80 students (with more arriving) from 16 nations around the world are attending. Students from as far away as Zambia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan are here. 49 of these are Korean students. This is truly an international school. The school was opened with a Maori greeting which welcomed all the students.

We are now on a journey as brothers and sisters - to live and learn together. The following hours included beautiful worship, prophetic dance, and prayer. The students are hungry for God and adjusting to their new living situations and learning other languages.

The main languages spoken are, Korea and Russian and English. We are blessed to be partnering with Shalom Mission Church with Pastor Deborah Oh and her team.

They have been amazing hosts to us as staff and students alike. Their generosity to us and their desire to equip others is a huge blessing and encouragement.

Introducing HG Korea Student: Jun-Nyeo Hong

My name is Jun-Nyeo Hong. I am Korean Chinese, I lived across the Yalu river from North Korea, in the border city of Dandong. It is in Koguryo, an ancient Korean kingdom whose rule extended into present-day China. The region is home to many Korean-Chinese. I have been here in Korea for 23 days and I really thank God for what He has done in my life.

I wasn't a christian before I came to the school, I came because my daughter-in-law Ju-Eun, who is a student in the school, insisted I come. I have been severely ill for the last 2 years, where I get fluids in my intestines which have to be drained out every couple of days from my body. If I do not get medical treatment for draining the fluids, I would die by the end of the week.

I've also had diabetes for 13 years. As a result of my illnesses, my eyesight had deteriorated a lot, and due to the fluids in my body, I would lapse into unconsciousness every 6-8 hours.

I have travelled throughout China, visiting many hospitals in search of a cure, but none of the doctors could diagnose what illness I had. Many told me to just go home to die because they couldn't treat me. About 4 months ago, a friend asked me what sort of disease I had. I told her i didn't know, and she advised me to visit a small hospital and try it out. I was skeptical, because I had visited the top hospitals in China, and didn't think that there was anything new that the small hospital could do. However, there was a chinese doctor there who prescribed some medication, and it made me feel better. And it was after taking the medication for a few months, that my daughter-in-law asked me to come to Korea.

Nobody in my family knows Jesus, and I wasn't sure that I would be well enough to travel. But I told myself to give it a try, since I had no other options left. God really wanted me to come, I was certified strong enough, and received my visa to travel out of China! When I arrived, I was brought directly to Shalom Mission Church, to the school. I did not expect that, as I thought we were going to a relative's home. Through being at the school, God has healed me completely. I am now free of the fluids in my body and my sight has improved so dramatically. Though I haven't been a christian for long, I am excited to tell my family and people back home of Jesus. I thank God for all He has done, and I pray that I will continue to grow and walk with the Lord...

Attending Holy Given: Korea International School of Missions at Shalom Mission Church has been a blessing in many ways. The worship time before every lecture is a wonder, as it carriers you into the very presence of God with much appreciation of God’s love. Holy Given School has taken me to higher level of intimacy with Christ my Saviour. The teachings have been very transforming and anointed. I will return with a change to my ministry with Holy Ghost power. I am thankful that I have been graciously sponsored to attend this school.

I came to know Jesus as my personal saviour in 1978 at Easter through the ministry of Scripture Union. At that meeting a man of God preached from Isaiah 53:4-6, where he explained Christ took our sins and there is nothing else that we can do to save ourselves. I was brought up in church, baptised, a choir member and a morally good girl. But this day when the word was spoken from Isaiah 53, I was convicted that Christ took my sin on the cross. I repented of my sins and asked Jesus to save me. From this day I knew I had eternal life and had peace which I didn’t have before.

I am married to Mwala and we have three children 2 girls and a boy in the middle aged 17, 14, 10. My husband and children have all professed faith in the Lord and we all are members of Riverside Chapel in Kitwe Zambia.

Born in Korea but raised in Malaysia, returning “home” to a country so foreign, was not easy. Adapting to the Korean culture was hard enough, looking for an alive and vibrant church was another.

Somewhere along the way, I got lost in disillusions, despair and cynicism, and I stopped struggling to find a church where I could belong and serve with.

I did not plan to attend Holy Given School, and I just cringed at the idea of having to spend time with strangers for about a month, and I’ve begun to find living a backslidden life a lot more comfortable. I also started work a few days before Holy Given School’s opening, and I felt earning the money had more benefits than going to a conference that I’ve never heard about.

On the day that Holy Given was supposed to start, God spoke to me through Ecclesiastes 2. God challenged me whether I would chase after things that are eternal, or things that are only going to last a blink of an eye in comparison. On my way to work, I made up my mind to quit my job, and told my boss that I had something more important to do, packed my things, and have been here ever since.

My scepticism lasted throughout the first day, and I had to literally fight off the compulsion to bail. Tears of repentance started to flow the next day, and each day has been a tremendous blessing, though not necessarily pleasant. God put an end to a certain relationship that was very close to my heart, and also begun to challenge me again with my finances, my way of thought, and my commitment towards Him. I’m still dealing with many things or rather, God is; for imperfect, I feel, is the word that describes me best, but I know that He sees me not as how I see myself, and His love overrules all fault and blemish.

I normally tell people to think twice, thrice before making a decision, but now I’ll tell them so, with the exception of Holy Given School.
